Look Here for a PS3

so, if you were wondering where to get a ps3, there’s one down at the best buy in boise, idaho.

however, i don’t know if it’s one of the 2 retailers that have them in stock according to itracker.com.

from the site:

Playstation 3 – 60GB
Local Status: 2 out of 2 retailers in your area have this item in-stock.

Item Statistics
Users Tracking: 1034
Local Users Tracking: 0
National Availability: 47%

national availability is 47%?  wow.  the shortage is apparently over with just under a million units sold and a month after launch.

pretty telling.

UPDATE:

So far as I have seen and heard (via the ol’ reliable internet), PS3s seem to be in stock just about anywhere. What isn’t in stock, is $600 to purchse one sans game and HDMI cables.

It’s your price point Sony. It’s killing you.

Oh be quite, you’re rats with wings!

I saw one there they other day and no one even looked at it, I have to admit the one game they have at the store to play and look at is very pretty, but it doesn’t make me want to drop 600 bucks.

Seriously you couldn’t give me a ps3, and that is the honest truth. I want a Wii though and they of course don’t have those…bastards.

What is Sony’s plan B? They can’t drop the price. They cant move any at the price point it’s at so they cant produce more to achieve efficiency and economies of scale. I was sure they’d be sold out for the first year. I never expected demand to die off as fast as it has.

As for the Wii, it’s very cool right now, but in all honesty, what legs does it have 2 years from now? It’s the only console that doesn’t do HD and to be honest it just doesn’t look good on HD sets.

I think the Wii will sell continuously despite that, but i think Kutaragi and Sony have screwed the pooch on this one.

They needed to kill the PS2 software pipeline a year ago and give their fans a compelling reason to upgrade, like only new games on the PS3. If Guitar Hero 2 and God of War 2, and Gran Turismo had been launch titles, things might have played out differently. But now, there’s no way for Sony to get momentum rolling again. Blu-Ray just might be the albatross around Sony’s neck that kills their only golden goose.

Coupled with Microsoft’s pending price drop, things get really dire for Sony. I’ve seen recent cost estimates that place the bill of goods for the 360 below sales price, and thats without the 65nm processor. A 100.00 price drop in the spring or with the Halo 3 launch will be the knockout punch.

    i hear you, opa.

here’s a little blast from the past:
    https://m3mnoch.wordpress.com/2006/01/06/the-blu-ray-of-damocles/

from where i’m sitting, they have a few choices:

    1) admit blu-ray is too expensive to build into a game console right now and make it an add-on.

    or

    2) stick it out, take the loss and sink the company.

    or

    3) launch the ps3 in late 2007 giving blu-ray time to cement itself in the market.

    or

    4) make the blu-ray player in the ps3 a crappy implementation so enthusiasts will see the value in an expensive player from samsung.

    damn funny.

    this one is good too:

So how much longer before I can find a wii like that? Geez.

Anyways, I hope everyone had some happy holidays.

Oh, and concerning Opa’s post, is a $100 dollar price drop feasible? I was thinking more in the range of $50.

  6. Opa on

Well a hundred dollar price drop would take the wind out of the Wii’s sales by putting the 360 in the same price range and utterly kill the PS3. Or…drop it 50, and bundle Halo 3 or Forza with it. Just a thought.

I wonder how the people who spent 2k or more on eBay for one of these feel now.

Things that are hurting Sony too is that game design companies are starting to realize, or have realized for awhile now, that Sony isn’t the dominator anymore and that letting them have exclusive rights to games is actually hurting themselves. I never would have thought that Guitar Hero would come to the 360, it is a main reason I have almost bought a ps2 more then once, but now I don’t need too, and I certainly don’t need to buy a ps3.

Oba you are right, I don’t know if Sony has a plan B, I can’t think of anything really that could help them.

err Opa…not Oba sorry I suck
