Optical Storage Media

so.  holographic solid state storage has been in development forever and appears to be the holy grail of archival systems.  (hard drives, dvds, cds, magnetic tape, etc)  hell, it’s been in every single high-tech movie lately.  those glass-looking discs in Minority Report come to mind.

well.  i thought it was one of those things in development forever.  apparently not: InPhase Technology - What is Holographic Storage?

bad.  ass.

who the hell needs hd-dvd or blu-ray?  this stuff is bigger than blu-ray, lasts 10 times as long and is coming out later this year in consumer device form.

  1. I was really waiting for this! No more ugly hard drive noise!

  2. Dude, this is nothing. InPhase’s competitor has a 3.9 Terabyte prototype, and even that’s nothing. Check this:

    http://www.colossalstorage.net/

This could surpass holographic storage by 1000s or even more times. “One 10 Terabyte to 10 Petabyte and beyond 3.5 in FEdisk… “

  3. sweet! i’m so geeked up about all this storage stuff.

what i thought was cool about inphase is that they actually have a drive out now. they are shipping consumer drives this year. not in 2015.
